SEASON 2

Yeah. We survived the season one scare. This is what happened.

Prices dropped to as much as P75 per kilo, while feeds increased by as much as 20%. The result, we barely broke even. We capitalized our motor boat, and the fish cages though.

Lot's of our fellow investors took the hiatus, while others altogether decided to leave the business. Our group decided to give it one more try.

We're better and more experienced now compared to before, so who knows. We really feel though that this time, we know what we are doing.

We're already on our 4th month and harvest is expected soon.

I hope this time, our fortune will be good. As in business is good.

On this blog, we will share to you what are the other products with Bangus as the center piece. We all know that Bangus is a healthy, nutritious edible fishes that can be cooked in many ways. But there are other by products that can be made from bangus that are readily available in the market. These are some of them:

Bangus Farming - Feeds and Its Effect on the Pocket

Fish cage farming is relatively cheap on your initial expenses. Assuming that everything is done, the fish cage is finished and the fries have been stacked, it is time to operate it. The biggest contributor of the cost  are the feeds. It could takes up to 80% of your operating expenses cost.

Bangus Farming - Our Second Sampling

On October 25, we conducted our second sampling. Same process with the first one, but we are a little bit excited since we already have data from our first sampling and that we can now gauge our progress.

The objective again is to have a growth rate of at least 3 grams per day. It was 18 days apart so simple mathematics:

Bangus Farming - Mortality Rate

Hi there. Like any business that you are to undertake, it entail risks. One the the many risks in this business is death of a fingerling. It is very common to have deaths in a fish cage, especially during the early stages. It was determined from experiments and experiences of BFAR and other operators that the mortality rate of these fishes would reach 5% per 15,000 fingerlings.

Bangus Farming - Our First Sampling

Hello there. On October 07, 2010, we conducted our first sampling. Sampling is a process wherein we randomly select 30 Bangus Fingerlings and take it weight and determine its mean. This is a sort of monitoring to give an idea on the progress of the fishes' growth. This will also give us an idea, though not in absolute terms if our methods of feeding is experiencing wastage.

You may wonder what exactly is it that we are into. So do we. In fact, we had a little, or make it a BIG apprehension on this whole thing. For relatively new comers, with no or little experience whatsoever, this is quite a big risk. But after some research, investigations, running through numbers and financial analysis, we eventually proceeded.
